What is MOF?

Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline, highly porous materials formed by the combination of metal ions or clusters with organic linkers (ligands).

Thousands of MOFs with different chemical compositions are known in the literature. However, only some of them exhibit the specific properties required for practical applications.

Thanks to their porous structures, MOFs can selectively capture, store, or separate small molecules. This makes them indispensable materials in a wide range of fields such as gas storage and separation, water purification, drug delivery, sensor technologies, and many more.
